Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentaries and analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit educational site that explores the representation of women in pop culture narratives - is created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to dispel the myths that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working with issues that relate to the targeted harassment women and other classes of people online. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a well-known public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from an early age she launched her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while she was still at University. This ambitious woman planned to launch an internet series that examined the gender roles in games and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. The woman was not stopped from the attack, and in fact it only reinforced her drive to become feminist and media critic. Many awards have been presented to her in recognition of her contributions to the field she made. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores the representations of women within pop culture stories.
